The schedule of events is complete, and we do not expect any changes at this time.  

All registrants are strongly encouraged to attend the Welcome Reception, where important information and any last-minute changes will be announced. 

PLEASE NOTE: There will be NO FOOD OR BEVERAGES served at the Welcome Reception.

Workshops start at 8 a.m. on Sunday and Monday at the National Butterfly Center, which will open at 7:30 a.m. for festival/meeting registrants. Workshops will last one hour, so participants may find their field trip leader and depart at 9:15 - 9:30 a.m. Please be prompt, in order to receive special instructions or directions from your trip leader, as each will determine the day's itinerary. 

TUESDAY there are no workshops, and field trips depart at 8:30 a.m.

Nature Photography with Luciano, in the Visitor's Pavilion: You see his photos on Facebook and in print... Here's your chance to learn practical tips and best practices for perfecting your camera work in the field and post-production. Bring your camera to class!

iNaturalist with Javi Gonzalez, in the Outdoor Classroom: Get familiar with this easy-to-use app that is empowering citizen scientists to document observations and share information from the field. Bring you phone or iPad to class.

A Course in Caterpillars with Cat Traylor, under the Monarch Palapa: Let Cat show you how to search for and identify caterpillars, wherever you may roam. Close focus binoculars and magnifying glasses will be provided for use. 

Build your Best Butterfly Garden with Allen Williams, near the Butterfly Promenade: Allen is an expert gardener with a talent for making contrived environments appear all-natural. He's responsible for many of the most beautiful and productive landscapes in the the Rio Grande Valley, and is here to show you how to improve your large or small, home or community garden, too.

Please check regularly for updates related to excursions, speakers and special activities.  All scheduled tour sites are subject to change based upon pre-festival scouting. The sale of limited space shall occur on a 'first come, first served' basis.  If you have questions about particular trips, regarding rigorous terrain, obstacles or hazards, please email: This email address is being protected from spambots.   • Cancellations and Refunds: We know you don't want you to miss the 21st Annual Texas Butterfly Festival, or the NABA Biennial Members' Meeting,  but if you must cancel, call 956.583.5400, during regular business hours, Monday - Friday. Full refunds will be issued up until 4PM, Friday, September 30th. Cancellations up until 4PM, Friday, October 14, will be issued at 50%.  Regretfully, cancellations and no-shows will not be refunded after this. 
  • Refund Exceptions: Participants who pay for NABA Membership as part of their event registration will not have their NABA Membership fee refunded; rather they will receive the full benefits of membership for one full year.
  • Substitutions: The event organizers reserve the right to cancel any festival or meeting activity or make qualified substitutions. If a cancellation is necessary, a full refund will be issued, unless otherwise noted.
